Where the Ministry of Defence processes personal details, it is clearly stated for which purposes the information will be used. The Ministry of Defence only uses your personal details for the purpose for which you submitted them. So, for instance, if you have filled in the contact form, the information from the form is not used for other purposes, such as sending you press releases.

However, details may be used for investigation purposes if punishable offences are committed, or punishable statements are made, or in case of other exceptional circumstances as stated in Section 43 of the Personal Data Protection Act. Personal data are not saved longer than necessary for the purpose for which they were collected. Only personal information you have actively entered will be processed.

The Personal Data Protection Act helps to protect citizens’ privacy. The Act applies to data processed via the websites of the various ministries. The Dutch Data Protection Authority is the regulator of the Personal Data Protection Act.
