Small Business Innovation Research Programme
The Netherlands Innovation Platform has expressed a desire to involve small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) more closely in innovative government tenders. To that end, the Dutch government has been experimenting with the American model of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programme.
The Small Business Innovation Research Programme is aimed at innovation for SMEs. Within this programme, SMEs develop innovations at the request of the government, contributing to solutions to social issues. At the same time it offers companies the opportunity to develop new and innovative products, processes and service.
The SBIR programme in the Netherlands is an initiative of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture, Nature & Food Quality; Transport, Public Works & Water Management; Education, Culture & Science; and Health, Welfare & Sport.
At the moment, the Netherlands Defence organisation is not running a SBIR programme.
