- Ministry of Defence
The Central Staff is responsible for making policy, so that the other elements of the Defence organisation can implement that policy directly.
The Central Staff supports the political leadership (the Minister and the State Secretary) in directing the organisation and advises them in their roles as members of the government.
The Central Staff, housed at the Plein in The Hague, employs some 2,000 civilian and military personnel. The Secretary-General (the most senior civil servant in the Ministry) heads the Central Staff.
