International cooperation
The Netherlands Institute of Military History (NIMH) is closely involved with the Commission Internationale d'Histoire Militaire (CIHM). This is an international organisation that was established in 1938. It endeavours to promote cooperation among military historians across national borders so that military historical research is stimulated.
The most important activities of the CIHM include:
- the organisation of congresses;
- the ongoing publication of a bibliography of the most important military historical publications;
- distribution of a newsletter on military historiography.
In 2005, the Director of the Netherlands Institute of Military History, Mr Piet Kamphuis, was re-elected Secretary-General of the CIHM for a second five-year term.
