The Netherlands Institute of Military History (NIMH) can offer you only limited help in your quest for information about ancestors with a military background. The Institute only has a small number of primary sources for genealogical research. However, the Institute has a large library and documentation collection. They can offer you a lot of general information about military life.
The most important primary sources that the NIMH has at its disposal are personnel files (pdf) of regular military navy personnel born between around 1865 and 1908.
