Replacement of the Lynx by the NH90
Starting in mid-2010, the Royal Netherland Navy´s Westland Lynx helicopters will be replaced by a total of 20 NH90 helicopters. Twelve of these are of a type designed specially for maritime operations: the NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH). Eight have been designed for land operations: the Maritime Tactical Transport Helicopter (MTTH).
The NATO Frigate Helicopter can be fitted with a wide variety of special equipment and is therefore capable of conducting a broad range of activities. France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal jointly developed and built the NH90. The first prototype flew in December 1995. Many test flights have since been conducted.
