Navigational Charts
The Hydrographic Service publishes electronic charts, paper charts and the so-called 1800 series, covering the Netherlands Continental Shelf, Caribbean Netherlands and Surinam and adjacent areas.
The charts are primarily meant for use by SOLAS shipping (Safety Of Life At Sea).
Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) are official vector charts produced in compliance with the S-57 format of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). ENCs are published in several usage bands, varying from the small-scale general usage to the large-scale harbour usage.
The paper charts folio mainly consists of international charts published in co-production with the UK Hydrographic Office. The production of charts bordering other countries is done in close consultation with the adjacent Hydrographic Organizations (HOs) of Belgium, Germany and France.
The 1800 series of nautical charts (8 atlases) is meant for smaller SOLAS shipping and the recreational/home trade, covering the complete Dutch coast and the inner IJsselmeer.
