Operations
The Operations desk (OPS) of the Hydrographic Service is responsible for the planning of all hydrographic survey activities within the Royal Netherlands Navy. Not only hydrographic survey work performed by the dedicated hydrographic survey ships, but also the hydrographic work carried out by other civilian and military units (such as mine warfare units, hydrographic launches and mobile units for both military and civilian use, but also outsourcing to other public bodies or commercial groups).
The guidance document for conducting hydrographic survey work on the Netherlands Continental Shelf is the 'Opname Beleidsplan' (Survey Policy Plan). The current status of conducted surveys is compared against this plan annually. The result of this comparison is the base for the 'Jaaropdracht' (Annual Survey Order), which contains the prioritisation and areas to be surveyed.
Another important task of OPS is quality management of the hydrographic work. OPS monitors the execution of survey operations, from their inception to the final submission of the results, receiving and distributing the results at the hydrographic office, guides these through the production process, and provides feedback to the units conducting the surveys.
OPS could be seen as the general contact between the Hydrographic Service and the survey units.
