Hydrographic Service
The Hydrographic Service provides nautical charts and publications concerning the maritime region belonging to the Caribbean Netherlands and in the context of international treaties.
In addition, the Hydrographic Service produces military hydrographic and meteorological products in accordance with NATO standards. The area of responsibility for civil and military products primarily includes:
- the Netherlands Continental Shelf;
- the waters surrounding Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Aruba, Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius.
The Hydrographic Service has two survey ships for collecting the required data, HNLMS Snellius and HNLMS Luymes. These ships are efficient and operate with a small crew. The key tasks of these ships consist of carrying out civil and military hydrographical surveys for the purpose of providing information about the Navy’s own and other operating regions. One of the two ships has a ‘double crew’ and is therefore continuously operational.
