The Royal Netherlands Navy honours its history and traditions in many different ways. Many of its ships bear names that are steeped in history.
Naval history is on display for all to see at the Navy Museum in Den Helder. The Marine Corps has its own museum in Rotterdam.
Music and the armed forces have gone hand in hand for centuries. This is certainly true within the Royal Netherlands Navy. Marching has, of course, always been done to music, and in the past musical signals were used on the battlefield. Nowadays, music plays both a ceremonial and promotional role in the Royal Netherlands Navy.
