Personal protection
The tasks of the Special Security Missions Brigade include that of personal protection. The brigade is a special unit which can be deployed whenever rapid, specialist action is required.
The Special Security Missions Brigade is, for instance, responsible for the protection of:
- high-ranking military personnel who visit the Netherlands;
- persons designated by the Defence organisation in crisis management operations;
- Defence personnel sent abroad to work in a number of Dutch embassies and consular posts.
The personnel, who have had specialist training, can be deployed for a wide array of tasks, ranging from forced entries into buildings and the protection of objects and individuals to the identification of explosives.
The brigade can operate with other police or military units, but it is also capable of operating independently. The brigade has, for example, its own observation and arrest teams.
The personal protection equipment is, of course, adapted to suit the nature of the operation. The brigade also has fast and practical vehicles to enable it to carry out its tasks properly.
