Civil peace and international tasks
The Dutch armed forces take part in crisis response operations in an international setting. These could be missions designed to prevent armed conflict or missions to safeguard international peace and security.
When the armed forces of the Netherlands participate in a crisis response mission, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee will accompany them to perform police duties for the Dutch military personnel. The Marechaussee can also be detached to an international military police unit, performing police duties together with similar organisations from other countries.
The Marechaussee could also be required to participate in what are known as CIVPOL operations. The task of the Marechaussee would then be to observe the performance of the local civilian police, train police personnel, monitor the organisation and advise on improvements.
