Marechaussee arrest team apprehends ‘Schiphol bomb’ suspect

On 13 February 2012, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee arrest team arrested a man at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol who had shouted out that he had an explosive device on him. The Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service was called to the scene. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee cordoned off Departure Halls 1 and 2 as the suspect was just in front of passport control.
Eventually, at approximately 15.30 hrs, it transpired that there were no explosives present. Further investigation is taking place into the cause of the incident, the identity of the suspect and his motive.
