New air force detachment leaves for Afghanistan

A new rotation of the Air Task Force (ATF) left Eindhoven Air Base for Afghanistan on 10 January. The ATF is the Dutch air force detachment which is contributing 4 F-16s to the ISAF mission based in Mazar-e Sharif in northern Afghanistan.
The detachment, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Geert Ariëns, comprises 90 personnel and is deployed to protect the Dutch police trainers in Kunduz. The aircraft’s tasks include detecting improvised explosives, using the RecceLite photo reconnaissance system.
