Operational Support Command (Land)

Operational Support Command (Land) performs the entire range of operational support tasks for ground-based units during operational deployment and exercises. The command has highly specialised expertise which is offered from 22 locations throughout the Netherlands.

Employing 6,500 personnel, Operational Support Command (Land) is the largest unit in the army. 

Materiel

The following pieces of equipment are essential for this command: 

  • 2 field hospitals and 3 MOGOS field hospital systems; 
  • 2 mobile drinking water installations;
  • 515 Scania palletised loading systems; 
  • 112 DAF tractor-trailers;
  • 40 Fennek wheeled vehicles (some still to be delivered);
  • 9 Fuchs wheeled vehicles for chemical-nuclear reconnaissance, 3 for biological reconnaissance and 12 for electronic warfare;
  • 30 intelligence and reconnaissance systems;
  • 4 Sperwer unmanned aerial vehicle systems; 
  • 4 Aladin unmanned aerial vehicle systems (for training purposes); 
  • 12 decontamination systems; 
  • 12 end sections and 24 interior sections, for a maximum of 6 pontoon bridges.

Operational Support Command (Land) consists of the following units: 

  • 1 medical battalion; 
  • 1 engineer battalion; 
  • 1 air-defence command; 
  • 1 ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) battalion;
  • 1 CIS (Communications and Information Systems) battalion; 
  • 2 supply and transport battalions; 
  • 3 repair companies; 
  • 1 CIMIC (Civil-Military Cooperation) battalion. 

Locations

The command staff is based at the Frank van Bijnen Barracks in Apeldoorn. The units are divided over 22 locations. The main locations are at Wezep, ‘t Harde, Garderen, De Peel and Ermelo.
