Organisation
Employing some 26,000 personnel, both military and civilian, the Royal Netherlands Army is the largest element of the Defence organisation. Internally within the Defence organisation, the army is referred to as Army Command (CLAS).
The Commander of the Royal Netherlands Army has command of all land forces. He is supported in his tasks by the staff of the Royal Netherlands Army, based in Utrecht. The Royal Netherlands Army Staff consist of the Commander’s Personal Office, the Chief-of-Staff Group and three Directorates, namely: Operations, Planning & Control, and Operational Support.
The army performs its tasks according to the motto ‘Deployable worldwide on land for peace and security’.
